Mobile telecoms mast plans rejected Orange PCS planning application to site a 12m high mobile telecommunications mast on Church Street near the junction with Arbroath Road was rejected at last week's Angus Council Planning Committee meeting. The mast with ancillary ground-based equipment was to have been disguised as a lamppost. Councillor Ralph Palmer said that the mast was planned at a prominent entry to the Town and would be incongruous on the landscape. He note that the Community Council had lodged a robust objection to the plans and urged his fellow Committee members to take account of the strong views of the community against the proposed location. The application which had been recommended for approval by the Director of Infrastructure Services, was unanimously rejected. Community Recognition for local Brass Band This week, Carnoustie Community Council held a reception to recognise the achievement of the Carnoustie and District Youth Brass Band in coming 4th in their class at this year's British Brass Band Championships in Manchester. Approximately 80 band members, parents and instructors came along to the reception at the British Legion Function Suite where, in the absence of Sue McMahon (away on holiday), Jim Simpson paid tribute to the Band. He said that when it was announced last year that the band were to compete in the British Brass Band Championships in Manchester, many people in Carnoustie had swung behind them in helping to raise the £5000 necessary to make the trip. The fact that a Scottish band were to compete in the heart of what was effectively 'brass band country' had really caught the imagination. To actually finish 4th out of 17 bands in their class, was a tremendous achievement and a credit not only to the band itself but to the whole of Carnoustie. He went on to say that none of this could have happened without the dedication of band leader Mike Robertson, world-renowned conductor on the day, Richard Evans and of course the support and fund-raising of all their parents, not to mention the expertise and professionalism of the band members themselves.
