Barry Mill visitor numbers doubled over
summer Barry Mill, on the outskirts of
Carnoustie, has seen its visitor numbers doubled from just 2000 visitors a
y ear to over 4000 in the past three months alone. Barry Mill was faced with
closure earlier in the year as the result of a round of closures of loss-making properties
owned by the National Trust for Scotland but following a campaign by the
'Friends of Barry Mill' and the promise of financial support from Angus
Council, the Trust decided to keep the Mill open to the public. Many
activities have been organised over the summer to raise awareness and bring
in much needed revenue. To finish off the season in style, a family
Halloween evening is planned for October 31st from 4.30 to 7 pm.
Angus Council to sponsor 2010 Senior
Open
Angus Council has agreed to sponsor next year's
British Senior Open golf tournament to the tune of £50,000. The Council
predict that the
championship could bring as much as £1.7m into the local economy and bring
benefits to the area through global media coverage. The report states, "The
Senior Open Golf Championship is now firmly positioned as the top
competition of the senior golf circuit, ensuring the participation of golf's
greatest senior players from Europe, the USA and the rest of the world. In
view of the global importance and economic impact, adding to Carnoustie's
portfolio of staged golf events, it is considered that the opportunity
presented by the sponsorship deal will benefit Angus and further boost the
profile of the Carnoustie Country Campaign'.
